I'm a Slacker

Logan turned 4 months old - four days ago... The weeks are so busy and tiring I can never get done half of the things I hope to, including updating the blog. I must have told James at least 5 times this week, "There are just not enough hours!!"

So, at 4 months, Logan weighs 13 pounds, 4 ounces and is 25-1/4 inches long. That's 1lb 4oz and 3/4" bigger than he was at his 2-month appointment. He is in the 24th percentile for his weight, and the 51st percentile for his height. He's still long and lean!

He had the same round of vaccinations this time, as he had at his 2-month appointment. Man-o-man, can that kid ever scream! I held it together much better this time, but I still got a little sniffly. He just screamed SO loud and long and wouldn't take a breath - it started to scare me a little! His reaction to the shots this time was a little worse - much fussier and more feverish. But we muddled through and it's all behind us now, for another 2 months (except for the bruise on his thigh from where the shots went in...)

Four months typically brings on a phenomenon known as "The 4-Month Sleep Regression". Our son is no exception to this phenomenon. Instead of waking once a night at his usual 4am-ish feeding time, he started waking just about every three hours to eat. This just about knocked me on my ass, until James insisted I leave a bottle or 2 of expressed milk in the 'fridge, so he could get up and feed Logan sometimes, and I could sleep. I can't tell you how much this helps!! So the sleep regression could be a growth spurt, or it could be a "development spurt", that I read about here. But many sources state that if a baby's sleep pattern reverts to that of a newborn, this could be a sign that he's ready to start eating more, namely solid foods. The pediatrician agreed with this opinion and told us we could start to try feeding him cereal whenever we wanted. Being that there is a TON of information on completely opposite theories about starting solid foods, this is for some reason a monumental decision for us (well, really, for me - I keep going back and forth on whether we should start feeding him cereal). But, I will write about that in a separate post. If you care to weigh in on the issue, feel free!

Anyway, Logan is doing so much developmentally, and every day gets more and more fun! You've seen the videos of him giggling and squealing. He also rolls completely over, front to back and back to front - he's been doing this for almost a full month! He has figured out how to "Butt-Up!" - he gets on his knees, or even his feet, with his little bum in the air. From there he has figured out how to scooch. He can scooch forward, and he can pivot around - scooching his bum and legs around in a circle. Tummy time on the blanket always ends up with him having scooched or rolled himself off the blanket and onto the hard floor!

He is learning how to manipulate his toys somewhat. He can press the keys on the tiny piano toy to make the music come on, and is an old pro at pulling the handle on his Octopus carseat toy to make the music come on. He loves soft books and soft toys that crinkle. And if you give him a soft book that crinkles, he's all set!

Logan loves to play Peek-a-Boo and almost always takes the cloth of his own head when you cover him up and ask "Where's Logan??" Then when you can see his face and say "PEEK-A-BOO, There he is!!", he just grins and giggles and giggles! He also loves it when I sing songs to him, especially if I clap/dance/act goofy. I think his favorite is the Noah's Ark song, "Rise and Shine". Incidentally, this started one morning when I woke him up to get ready for school, and I said "Rise and shine, Logan!". Then the chorus popped into my head, that I remembered from Sunday School when I was a kid. I couldn't remember any of the rest of the words, though, so I had to Google it. And we've been singing it ever since.

He absolutely LOVES his baths now, and loves the water. We're so glad about this, and hope to get him into swim lessons as soon as he's big enough. He's learned how to "Splish-Splash" - and kicks his legs in the bath to splash the water. He loves it when we splash water on his belly, and when we splash with our hands or say "splish-splash", he starts to kick his legs and splash! And, of course, sometimes I sing to him "Splish Splash, I was taking a bath (da-da-da-da), all about a Saturday night!". But I can't remember any of those other words either, so I have to Google them too! Doesn't matter, though - he still grins big whenever I sing just that one line over and over.

And, finally, we (read: I) are convinced there has to be a tooth or two just waiting to pop up in that mouth of his. He seriously can fill a bucket with all the drool he produces, and that plus him pulling on his left ear all the time and chewing on EVERYTHING is a sure-fire sign of teething! I keep checking, and when I told James last night that I THOUGHT I could see where one might be coming up, I just got the eye-roll... We'll see.

And now, some 4-month photos:

See, what you don't know is that for every couple of pictures I post on this blog, I have probably physically taken about 100 photos of him. Then I pick the best ones and post them. But, I usually have to quit shooting when I get one like this, where he's clearly saying, "OK. I'm done with the picture taking. Put me to bed now, please."

But here is my all-time favorite so far:

So cute, if I do say so myself! ;-)
